Bezmialem Vakif University delegation visits the SBMU
Prof. Saffet Tuzgen, neurologist, the President of Bazmialem Vakif University and the Hospital of Istanbul, with his Senior Advisor, Prof. Kerem Kink were hosted by Prof. Gharehbaghian, the SBMU Director of International Affairs Office on Wednesday, April 22, 2014. First, they made a visit to the School of Medicine, and Prof. Gharehbaghian, briefly introduced the university. Then, Prof. Jorjani, Dean, School of Medicine, explained about establishment of School, number of faculty members, medical students and system of education. Prof. Shadnia, Deputy of Higher Education, gave some detail on different majors available at the School of Medicine. The Turkish delegation visited the pharmacology laboratory and was informed about educational and research facilities there.
The delegate visited the Research Institute for Endocrine Science. First, Prof. Fereidoun Azizi, Director of the Institute, opened the meeting with a brief history of the institute, important measures taken so far in the national and international level, and also gave some detail on the scientific capacity of this center in comparison with the foreign ones. He also introduced the “Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study” as the largest cohort study in the region. Prof. Tuzgen and Prof. Kink illustrated on the educational system in their university and required conditions for collaboration between the two universities.
After finishing the meeting, the guests visited different parts of the institute including the laboratory and the library.
According to the scheduled program, Prof. Tuzgen and Prof. Kink visited Taleghani Educational Hospital, and were welcomed by Dr. Alizadeh, Chief of the Hospital. Dr. Dehghan, Deputy of Education, introduced the hospital including the number of beds, different wards, operation rooms, clinics and para clinics. Then, Dr. Ebrahimpour, Head of the orthopedic ward, gave some information about the activities in this ward. Besides, Dr. Zojaji, Head of the gastrointestinal ward, illustrated on the type of relationship between public hospitals and insurance as well as treatment modalities available in this ward.
In the end, the delegation visited the bone marrow transplantation (DPT), and Dr. Hajifathali, Head of the DPT, provided some details on admitted patients , trend of treatment, follow up and overall performance of the ward. He also stated that this department is capable to provide specialized training for the Turkish specialists in the field of bone marrow transplantation.
Being glad about the visits, the delegation invited the SBMU officials to visit the Bezmialem Vakif University in order to initiate scientific, research and therapeutic collaborations.
